Greenleaf Bill Blocking Civilian Flights at Horsham Base
Passes Senate
Harrisburg—Today the Pennsylvania Senate approved SB 48, Senator
Greenleaf’s bill governing the future Horsham Joint Interagency
Installation.
The Senator’s bill would prevent the base from becoming a
commercial airport by limiting non-governmental users of the base to those
performing homeland security, national defense, and emergency preparedness
missions.
The legislation also requires all non-military occupants of the
base to comply with local ordinances including zoning regulations and property
taxes.
A similar bill, House Bill 111, sponsored by State
Representative Rick Taylor (D, Montgomery) awaits consideration in the House
Transportation Committee.
"I would like to thank my colleagues for their support for such
important legislation for our local communities," said Greenleaf. "I plan to
continue this fight until legislation is signed by the Governor that will
protect the quality of life for area residents. This is a significant step
forward, but we still have a long way to go."
Senate Bill 48 will now be sent to the House of Representatives
for consideration.
