Greenleaf Honors Champion Upper Dublin Cheerleaders with
Senate Citation
Upper Dublin High School Cheerleaders, having won first place in
the Medium Varsity Non-Tumbling Division of the National High School
Cheerleading Championship in Orlando Florida in February, visited the State
Capitol on Monday, March 16th where they were presented with a Senate Citation
sponsored by State Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf (R, Montgomery, Bucks).
"I would like to congratulate these young athletes and their
coach for a great achievement," said Greenleaf. "As with any great victory,
this one was won long beforehand through long hours of practice and hard work.
They have demonstrated exemplary dedication, talent, and toughness in
competition, and have become the standard bearers for their alma mater."
The team is the first Upper Dublin squad to capture a national
title, and is the first to qualify for national competition.
Before competing for the national championship in Orlando
Florida, the team successfully competed in a regional competition held in
Berwick, PA on December 14th, 2008. Though they did not take first place, they
did receive enough points to qualify for a trip to the national championship.
"This group has not only won a great title for their school, but
they have also brought home a great honor for the State of Pennsylvania," said
Greenleaf. "We are all very proud of them."
Led by their coach Amy Snyder, the members of the squad are,
Co-captains, Alexandra Beyda, Megan Taylor, Rebecca Lohoefer, and Diane Kim and
team members Kristy Bilger, Madelyn Gubernick, Danielle Parnes, Kyra Limberakis,
Michelle Simon, Melissa Matricardi, Katherine Denton, Kelly McPeake, Kelly
Whelihan, Taylor Evans, Khadijah Mayer, Amy Huynh, and Carly Gubernick.
