Bucks, Montco to receive over $200,000 in DEP Recycling
Performance Grants
State
Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf (R, Montgomery, Bucks) announced today that the
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will award Recycling
Performance grants totaling over $200,000 to Horsham Township, Montgomery
County, and Warminster Township, Bucks County.
Horsham
will receive $130,164 based on the 5,379.2 tons recycled for calendar year 2006
and the municipality’s population. Warminster will receive $79,455 based on the
4,929.7 tons recycled in that township.
The
Recycling Performance Grant Program provides incentive to help Pennsylvania
communities increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling and
promote economic growth in the Commonwealth through job creation and market
expansion.
The
grants are in addition to the funds that the Department of Environmental
Protection allocates to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling
programs.
"These
numbers reflect the keen environmental awareness of the residents of Horsham and
Warminster townships and their local government’s commitment to effective
recycling programs," said Senator Greenleaf. "I look forward to the amount of
recycled material increase in light of these grants coupled with the many
emerging economic opportunities associated with recycling."
