Greenleaf Secures $500,000 for Bethlehem Pike Improvement in
Lower Gwynedd
At a township
meeting on Tuesday, January 27, State Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf (R,
Montgomery, Bucks) presented the Lower Gwynedd Township Board of Supervisors
with a check for $500,000 in state funding to be used towards the Bethlehem Pike
Improvement Project.
The funds
were recently approved through Pennsylvania's Redevelopment Capitol Assistance
Program (RACP), administered through the Office of the Budget for regional
economic, cultural and civic development projects.
The board of
supervisors matched the state funding with an additional $500,000 as a
stipulation of the program.
The total $1
million will be used to install sidewalks, fencing, and other improvements along
Bethlehem Pike between Rotelle Drive and Locust Lane.
The Bethlehem
Pike Improvement Project is part of the township's overarching plan to
revitalize the Spring House area along Bethlehem Pike into a pedestrian-friendly
town center and shopping district. The project has been described by township
officials as, "…an effort to bring a new sense of community and civic pride to
both residents and businesses."
"I would like
to congratulate the Lower Gwynedd Township officials for their hard work to
secure the matching funds for this project," said Senator Greenleaf.
"These funds
are vital for the creation of a thriving town center that will not only
beautify, but will spur the creation of a walkable shopping district that will
greatly boost the economic health of the area and match the quality and
character of the surrounding residential community."
