Time to Apply for $100 Rebate from State

WILLOW GROVE – Information and instructions to apply for a one-time tax rebate of up to $100 are on the way to area homeowners, according to State Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf (R, Montgomery & Bucks).  Deadline for filing is July 7, 2000.

"This rebate is available to any taxpayer, regardless of age or income, who has paid school taxes in 1999 on their principle residence," he said. 

Greenleaf said that eligible owners must have lived in the home on July 1, 1999, and have paid their property taxes in full for 1999-2000.

"Property owners will receive a packet of information in the next few days which will include a Personal Identification Number (PIN).   This PIN, as well as the owner’s Social Security Number, must be included in the application.  This can be filed by telephone or on the Internet," he explained.  

The tax relief, made possible by a budget surplus, was proposed by Governor Tom Ridge and approved by the State House and Senate. 

"Only those who apply will receive the rebate, so it is important that everyone who is eligible respond before July 7.  My staff is ready to answer questions, and will access the internet for anyone who does not have that capability.  We ask that those seeking assistance bring their packet and tax receipts with them, or have them handy when calling by telephone," Greenleaf said.
