PARK PLAN GETS FUNDING BOOST

Plans for a 17 acre community park in Ambler and Lower Gwynedd will receive a boost with a state grant, according to State Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf (R., Bucks, Montgomery).

The Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund grant for planning and technical assistance of $12,500 will be matched by a local contribution. The project includes the preparation of a Master Site Development Plan for the park. The former Henkel property, the land lies in both Ambler Borough and Lower Gwynedd Township.

Greenleaf said that the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources provided the funds through the Community Conservation Partnership Initiative Community Grant Project. "I am especially pleased to congratulate Ambler and Lower Gwynedd for their cooperative effort to provide recreational opportunities to the residents of these communities," he said.

Lower Gwynedd Supervisor Kate Harper and Ambler Council President Scotti Sawyer expressed their gratitude for the state funding.

"We are delighted to get this grant so that this joint community program will move forward. This is a historic opportunity for two municipalities to purchase and maintain a park that spans the boundary between us. The planning grant will enable us to design a park that both municipalities will treasure," said Harper.

Sawyer noted that the borough and township share a school system, and the children and their families are used to being together. "Why not share a park? This should work out very well. It is wonderful to see this exciting joint venture. I believe that this is the wave of the future for land-limited boroughs," she said.

"Senator Greenleaf has been extremely supportive of our community and has been very effective in obtaining our fair share of state resources. We appreciate those efforts on our behalf," concluded Harper.
