Traffic Restrictions in Cheltenham and Limerick, Montgomery County for Signal Installation
Improvement Project Funded Through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

King of Prussia – Daytime lane closures are scheduled in Cheltenham and Limerick townships, Montgomery County next week for traffic signal installation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced.  The work is part of a $4.3 million transportation economic recovery project for traffic signal improvements at 32 intersections in Montgomery County.

Crews will install new signals at the following intersections with daily lane restrictions Monday through Thursday (Dec. 27-30) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

  • Ridge Pike at Limerick Center Road; and
  • Tacony Creek Parkway at Ashbourne Road/Central Avenue/Ryers Avenue

Lenni Electric Corporation of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor on the federally-funded contract to improve traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety in 11 municipalities. The intersections are receiving new poles and signal heads and most locations also will get new ADA-compliant curb ramps and pedestrian countdown timers.  Construction is expected to finish in summer 2011.

Within each municipality, groups of traffic signals will be interconnected for better timing.  The project includes intersections in 11 municipalities: Ambler Borough, Cheltenham Township, East Norriton Township, Hatboro Borough, Limerick Township, Lower Providence Township, Norristown Borough, Springfield Township, Upper Dublin Township, Upper Moreland Township and Whitpain Township. In the five-county Philadelphia region, PennDOT is investing $257 million of federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds on 30 transportation projects, which include road and bridge improvements, Intelligent Transportation System installations, traffic signal upgrades, multi-use trails, and curb ramp replacements.

PennDOT has awarded all 30 transportation economic recovery projects in the five-county Philadelphia region and all 30 projects have moved to construction.  To learn about how the federal economic recovery program benefits Pennsylvania, visit www.recovery.pa.gov.

Lane Closures Monday through Wednesday Next Week for Route 202 Parkway Construction in Montgomery and Bucks Counties

King of Prussia – Motorists will encounter lane restrictions on several roads in Montgomery and Bucks counties on Monday through Wednesday (Dec. 27-29) for construction activities for the new Route 202 Parkway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) will be reduced to a single lane between Hancock Road and Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Upper Gwynedd, Lower Gwynedd and Montgomery townships. Flaggers will be in place Monday through Wednesday (Dec. 27-29) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for utility construction.

Periodic lane closures and brief stoppages also will occur on Route 63 (Welsh Road) Monday through Wednesday (Dec. 27-29) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for continuing work to widen the road between Stump Road and Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) at the future connection with the Parkway.

Periodic lane restrictions also may be in place on County Line Road at the intersection with Route 202 (Butler Avenue) in New Britain and Montgomery townships Monday through Wednesday (Dec. 27-29) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Utility crews are installing gas lines as part of the project to widen County Line Road between Route 202 and Stump Road at the approaches to the Parkway.

Single lane conditions with flaggers also will continue on Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) between Stump Road and Route 202 (Butler Avenue) and on Upper State Road between County Line Road and Pickertown Road on Monday through Wednesday (Dec. 27-29) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for road widening related to Parkway construction in Warrington Township.

No lane closures will be in place for Parkway construction from Thursday, Dec. 30 until Monday, Jan.3.

Drivers should anticipate delays at each of the work zones and are advised to add extra time for travel through these areas. The work schedule is dependent on the weather.

These operations are part of PennDOT's $200 million project to build the nine-mile long Route 202 Parkway in Bucks and Montgomery counties and its $17.7 million project to widen and improve Route 202 between Hancock Road and Route 309.
